Hello, hello, everyone! Have you entered my $50 voucher giveaway yet? You really should :)

I have a review and swatch for you today, Rimmel Match Perfection Blush in 001 Light. Have you tried it? What did you think? In the name of research I put this product through its paces to see how it stands up. It was a tough choice choosing between the available shades, but instead of going for the usual medium toned colour, I went light/pink-ish. If it’s good enough for Barbie, it’s good enough for me. I hope.

Right off the bat I felt that this wasn’t the best choice for me, but believe it or not, I do like the colour. The colour isn’t bad, it’s the lack of visibility I’m not loving. My skin tone would have been better suited to a darker shade. Ok, so what’s good enough for Barbie might not be good enough for me. We live and learn, right? :P

I haven’t read any other reviews just yet, but I was disappointed in the lack of pigment. I had to apply the blush quite a few times to get an intensity that was noticeable. The fallout from applying it so many times was totally OTT, and I found it was best to tilt my head to avoid getting covered in blush.

It’s not all bad news though, I think this would suit someone looking for a subtle effect. It may have been a bust for me, but I do think there is potential.

While it’s near impossible to tell, there are actually three shades.

This photo (above) was taken in sunlight to show it does in fact have shimmer. But don’t be afraid, it is so microscopic you probably wouldn’t even know unless you looked at it closely enough.

Swatches

No, you don’t need glasses, this is my best attempt at swatching the shades :P

I debated whether it would even be worth posting these swatches, but in the end I thought hey, you gotta keep it real! I also wondered for a moment if I’d bought a botched blush, and perhaps it was meant to have better colour and it was just a manufacturing mistake. But I think not. It just wasn’t meant to be!

The Final Verdict

What I love:
Despite the disappointing result, I don’t hate this blush. I accept that is just wasn’t for me. The three shades mixed together actually produced a beautiful tone that was a natural flush for me (be it a very light one). Had it been more pigmented and easier to apply I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another shade.

What I don’t love:
Well, there’s the obvious. And then there is the mess. The first time I tested it, I applied it so many times I wasn’t paying attention to all the fallout. I checked myself in the mirror later and realised my entire jawline was covered in blush.

I’m also not a fan of the packaging. Sure, the blush was not incredibly expensive (it wasn’t dirt cheap either), the twist-to-open lid has somewhat worn down on mine. I have only had it a week or two, and it already spins freely and doesn’t lock completely.

Would I buy it again? Sadly no. Not for me. Would I recommend it to anyone? That’s a tough call. If you have darker skin, probably not. You’d honestly be better off trying something else. For everyone else, if you can test it first and get a good result, go for it!
