B.Liv by Cellnique

Aloha beauties, how are you on this fine day? Todays post is a review of B-Liv skincare, sent to me by the lovely people at Cellnique (http://www.blivskin.com).

Well where to begin? This trial and review was definitely an interesting one. I experienced my first mild allergic reaction to skincare in YEARS. Now that was unexpected. But, in the spirit of beauty blogging I did not falter, and in the end I can still say nice things about the cute little arsenal of products.

So what is B-Liv by Cellnique?
b•liv by cellnique is driven by advanced, bio-technologically-formulated ingredients with a decade’s-worth of expertise in the beauty industry. Each b•livproduct features a multifunctional system that efficiently releases ingredients based on the skin’s needs. b•liv was also created for youths, with functions that are simple-to-understand and easy to use.

The Allergic Reaction

I’d only ever had two reactions to anything in my life (that I am aware of), and now this makes three. The first was from a beauty set my Aunt gave me for Christmas when I was a teen – exactly which product it was is still a mystery. The second was a mild reaction to medication last year, and well, the third was brought on after I tried the ‘Off with those heads’ blackhead control. Bummer, dude.

I immediately recognised the signs, my face – nose especially – became incredibly itchy and the feeling lasted for hours. Thankfully it was only very mild and nothing a little antihistamine couldn’t help. So what caused it? Honestly, I couldn’t say which ingredient it was. But considering this is my second reaction to a product, maybe its worth looking into.

Now I know you’re asking ‘should you be worried?’. Not necessarily. The truth is, allergies can be brought on by a number of things for different reasons. Everyone is different. Food, nuts, product ingredients, medications… so many things can be a catalyst. My advice would be to always seek professional help if you ever have or suspect you are having a reaction. In my case I know what to look out for, extreme itching! 😛

So remember, just because someone reacted badly to a product, doesn’t mean you will too. But the same principle applies in reverse as well! Things that may work for others, might not work for you.

Now let’s get down to the real stuff…

Product: no spots bye dots blemish cleansing gel
Price: $25
Size: 130ml / 4.4 FL. OZ
Smell: yes, sweet fragrance
Animal testing: no
Shelf life: 12 months
Texture, colour, finish: This cleanser is a clear gel which lightly lathers, with the sweetest smelling fragrance. Boy did I love that smell. After washing off it was mild and gentle, no extreme drying which is great. It’s too early to say whether it really fades scars, but the toning effect after washing it off definitely calmed my skin.

Product: glow and shine skin smothening mask
Price: $29
Size: 50ml / 1.7 FL. OZ
Smell: yes, very light sweet fragrance
Animal testing: no
Shelf life: 12 months
Texture, colour, finish: This is a white creamy mask with small microbeads. The mask does not dry completely, but stays lightly tacky to the touch. I applied it generously, and while it felt a little heavy, it left my skin feeling very fresh and oil free.

Product: off with those heads blackheads sebum gel
Price: $39
Size: 15ml / 0.50 FL. OZ
Smell:  light mint/refreshing smell
Animal testing: no
Shelf life: 12 months
Texture, colour, finish: clear gel, dries completely to a non sticky finish. I couldn’t really say much more about it because, well, you know 😛

I’ve included the ingredients for this one, simply because of my reaction: Purified Water (Aqua), Aloe Vera (Aloe barbadensis) Extract, Witch Hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) Extract, Carbomer, Propylene Glycol, Menthol, Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) Oil, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Perppermint (Metha piperita)Oil, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Diazolidinyl Urea

Product: spots got shot blemish treatment serum

Price: $25
Size: 15ml / 0.33 FL. OZ
Smell: light chemical smell
Animal testing: no
Shelf life: 12 months
Texture, colour, finish: This spot treatment is a white creamy/serum, which dries to a slightly sticky finish. I was a little surprised that it didn’t have a pleasant smell to it like the other products, but it was honestly barely noticeable.

The Glow and shine mask/scrub!

I’m a real sucker for masks, and this one is the best non-drying mask I have tried so far. There was zero dryness or an uncomfortable tight feeling, which I find is a common trait in some. The lightly granulated formula worked great as a facial scrub, and wasn’t harsh on the skin. Did I mention the smell is incredibly relaxing?

One gripe – for $29 I am on the fence as to whether I would purchase a replacement when the current tube is done. 50ml / 1.7 FL. OZ is smaller than my regular masks, which are less than half the cost.

What I do like most about B.Liv, is their variety. They have a simple routine for just about every skincare concern. You can mix and match, or use strictly from one line, the choice is up to you.
