Something big has happened and I can hardly contain myself!
We are officially going on an overseas Christmas holiday! I know it’s six months away, but this will be the trip of a lifetime. We decided that life is short and you only live once, so obstacles aside, we took the plunge and booked six round-trip tickets two nights ago. Aaaand exhale.
Instead of flying the girls to us for the summer as they do every year, we planned to meet in California with family and celebrate a cold Christmas. It’s taken months of planning, hoping and the luck of the Irish, but our getaway is now a reality and I almost don’t believe it. Somebody pinch me! Who knows if we will ever be able to do something this big again, so every moment will be special.
This will be my kids first trip to the US, and their first time meeting their American Granny and Grandpa. It will be amazing having the whole family together. I can’t wait for them to fall in love with the people and places as much as I have. My husband has been bragging about his Christmases for years, so now he can show us what it’s all about. I hear Reeseballs are to die for 😉
The plan is to do the usual – road trips, theme parks, big cities, and maybe a baseball game or two, but what I am probably most excited about is taking the kids to Tahoe. That beautiful mountain town is my idea of heaven and I can’t wait to go back. I don’t know what it is but there’s just something about the place. And then there is the snow! I haven’t seen real snow since I was just a toddler, so you can image how excited I am. I’m going to eat handfuls of the stuff, Cookie Monster style. Just because I can (unless its yellow of course, that’s just not cool).
Wow! So that’s my big news. The countdown is on. My first order of business is preparing my youngest son for this extra long trip, it seems like a lifetime away but you can never be too organised. I’ve started by printing his very own special calendar, to help him count down the days until we leave. I’m sure I will have plenty of updates as the date gets closer so until then…
It’s only 159 days to go, because *singing*… We’re leaving, on a jet plane...
