leaving on a jet plane vacation

Something big has happened and I can hardly contain myself!

We are officially going on an overseas Christmas holiday! I know it’s six months away, but this will be the trip of a lifetime. We decided that life is short and you only live once, so obstacles aside, we took the plunge and booked six round-trip tickets two nights ago. Aaaand exhale.

Instead of flying the girls to us for the summer as they do every year, we planned to meet in California with family and celebrate a cold Christmas. It’s taken months of planning, hoping and the luck of the Irish, but our getaway is now a reality and I almost don’t believe it. Somebody pinch me! Who knows if we will ever be able to do something this big again, so every moment will be special.

This will be my kids first trip to the US, and their first time meeting their American Granny and Grandpa. It will be amazing having the whole family together. I can’t wait for them to fall in love with the people and places as much as I have. My husband has been bragging about his Christmases for years, so now he can show us what it’s all about. I hear Reeseballs are to die for πŸ˜‰

The plan is to do the usual – road trips, theme parks, big cities, and maybe a baseball game or two, but what I am probably most excited about is taking the kids to Tahoe. That beautiful mountain town is my idea of heaven and I can’t wait to go back. I don’t know what it is but there’s just something about the place. And then there is the snow! I haven’t seen real snow since I was just a toddler, so you can image how excited I am. I’m going to eat handfuls of the stuff, Cookie Monster style. Just because I can (unless its yellow of course, that’s just not cool).

Wow! So that’s my big news. The countdown is on. My first order of business is preparing my youngest son for this extra long trip, it seems like a lifetime away but you can never be too organised. I’ve started by printing his very own special calendar, to help him count down the days until we leave. I’m sure I will have plenty of updates as the date gets closer so until then…

It’s only 159 days to go, because *singing*We’re leaving, on a jet plane...

i have a simple solution. Instead of buying all those plane tickets, next time just buy a personal plane. That way you can fly whenever you like πŸ˜‰

We have been fortunate to see many places around the world – but every time we make new plans and as the time gets closer….the excitement is like we have never travelled before. When I read this I had a smile from one ear to the next for you. And with how amazing your photos are – when you get back it will be like we were with you. Can’t wait…

Thanks Brandie! That’s an excellent question!! What I will do just for you is write a how-to on exactly how to recreate it. There’s plenty of ways to achieve it, and its easier than you might think. Ill get right on it and post it very soon! Xx

I hail all the way from Darwin, Australia. And I agree! It’s amazing how you can go from mountainous green/wet say in Washington, to deserts in California, then to the complete other side where your fall is just beautiful and everything is different again. πŸ™‚

Sadly no. But my husband (who is from Cali) says our Dry Season is pretty close temperature wise. Up here in the tropics we only have two seasons, the Wet and the Dry lol. The wet is nothing but constant rain and 100% humidity, and The Dry is cool and you guessed it – no rain, haha πŸ˜€

Right now we are in the dry, which is the complete opposite of your guys. You’re all enjoying your lovely summer! πŸ™‚

Oh you are so right, I didn’t even think of that! LA is on the list of places to visit, so who knows what we might be able to squeeze in. We may just have to settle for getting into the college football bowl games on TV lol πŸ™‚
