rimmel apocalips lip laquer

If you happen stalk me on Facebook (it’s OK, I really don’t mind), you would have seen two Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer shades I picked up on Friday, Nude Eclipse and Phenomenon. I was so excited by my half priced bargain I immediately regretted not buying more. But unlike a lot of my beauty purchases, it turned out later that I’m glad IΒ didn’t.

When’s my next MRI, you ask? It’s OK, there’s no need. It’s just that for the first time ever, I was so frustrated with a beauty product. But before I get into that, it’s only fair to note what I DID like…

THE GOOD STUFF

You’ll notice from the photo above, the lip wand is strangely shaped. Some call it weird, I call it quite clever. The idea being that the indented tip catches a decent amount of product as you take it in and out of the tube. That means no more endless pumping to get a tiny amount of gloss, because lets face it, nobody want’s to admit they got body-building arms from pumping lip glosses.

As for the colour density, the pigment is amazing! Full colour, very opaque, shiny finish. Although the two shades I picked happen to create the ‘Invisible Lip’ effect on me, I have no doubt these shades would be well suited to the right tone. The staying power is so-so, but guys, it’s a ‘lacquer’. Which is code for ‘fancy gloss’. Which is code for ‘wont last forever’.

THE NOT SO GOOD STUFF

Which now brings me to why I had to give these a F. And what better way to describe it than with pictures. Or as I like to say in this case, CATures…

SO IT ALL BEGINS with a bargain. Half price off selected beauty products, discovered on a Friday afternoon. Could there be a better way to start the weekend? I’d like to see it! And there I am thinking…

But I decided to wait. And there I was, days later happily setting up my camera to do Β lip swatches. I swatched at least 12 times, and every time I tried I failed miserably. It was streaky on the lips and fiddly to apply. And once it was applied properly, I realised this was the kind of product that you need to commit to – full removal and reapplication needed when necessary (for me, anyway). I’d never had so much difficulty swatching a lip product before. This wasn’t turning out the way it was supposed to! So then I was left thinking…

OMFG are you serious?

AIN’T NO BODY GOT TIME FOR THAT!

aint no body got time for that!

So that Ladies and Gents is why I couldn’t give these a glowing review. Sad but true. It’s not all bad, and I’d be happy to see the wand design again. But it wasn’t all majestic on my lips, either. So, I’m very sorry Rimmel. These are just not the lippies for me. I’d love to know what you guys think? Have you tried them? Are they a hit or miss for you?

I have been thinking of investing in a couple of these thinking they would last longer than your traditional glosses. So glad I caught your review, I’ll stick to my lipsticks I think.

Yes it is a little dissapointing. I do feel that giving a bad review, as I know some people do love them.

I love them and have four, but I only like them lightly dabbed over a similar colour lipstick.
I loved how you went about this post, so funny.

How annoying is it when you’re sure you’re going to love a product and end up hating it

These lip product disappointed me so much. πŸ™ I got the color Apocaliptic and I posted my review..I was expecting miracles and I got none! Too bad, because the colors are gorgeous!!!
ps. can I ask you which camera do you use? I’m looking for a nice video camera (or photo camera) and I would like to get a decent quality at a reasonable price!

Hi Beautiful, I have to apologise for my late reply! Ive been thinking about your comment all week, choosing a new video camera is serious business πŸ™‚

I currently use a Nikon DSLR (5200 I believe), and it is a great camera. I remember before I bought a DSLR I had so many questions and grilled just about everyone I knew about what is best. The best advice I could ever give was what I was told again and again – the camera is great, but what makes all the difference is the lenses. At the time of course I didn’t fully understand what it really meant because I’d never really used a DSLR, but now that I own one it is so true! It’s common to think, well isnt the camera itself the most important part? And it is, but it is the lens that gives you the looks, range and quality you want. Every camera should have the same capabilities (generally speaking), So to be honest, pick a brand of camera you like, and then research what are the best lenses for what you want. Blurred background (depth of field)? Wide angle? You get the idea.

If your looking to make videos, be sure to pick a camera that has autofocus. I love my Nikon more than anything, but unfortunately it does not automatically autofocus when you are shooting alone (i.e infront of the camera). You have to have your finger on the shutter button to focus, which of course doesnt work when filming alone.

I could talk FOREVER about cameras, so if you have any more questions, feel free to shoot me an email @ beautifulkayekie@gmail.com xx I hope this helped! πŸ™‚

Oh my, THANK YOU SO MUCH for your help!!!
I’m looking for video-cameras that autofocus, yes, so I don’t have to bother other people to eventually help me film! The sad part is that..cameras in general are all so freaking expensive! That’s why I think I’m not getting a reflex, but a simpler video-carema that can take photos as well, but that guarantees HD videos.
I’ll write to you if I have questions!
        Thank you so much!!! <3

You are so very welcome!!! I’m crossings fingers for you and hope you find the perfect camera. I think the great news is, you don’t really have to spend too much nowadays and there are so many options. I agree that so long as it has HD it’s a great start. Look forward to hearing from you if you have any questions xx

The nude colors look really pretty, but I hate products that last for such a short time that you have to continue reapplying them. That’s ridiculous that it wasn’t even long-lasting enough for you to take swatch photos! While the product may have been disappointing, your post definitely wasn’t. The memes were so hilariously fitting for your experience. πŸ™‚ LOL

LOL yes, I love memes. I should include them in my posts more often πŸ™‚

I wasn’t that they didn’t last long per se, it just didnt go well on my lips. And I found that reapplying would actually build the colour TOO intensely (if that is even possible), creating an awful line around my lips. It just was not for me.
