DIY Clear Travel TSA Makeup Accessory Bag

The time has finally come!Β I’m officially in travel mode. In exactly two weeks to the day we will be heading on our holiday adventure. I’m so excited I can hardly contain myself *dancing*. Here’s hoping I can post more travel related posts in the coming weeks.

Which brings me to my newest DIYΒ clear makeup case. Lately I’ve noticed all clear cosmetic travel bags are priced around $25+, and nice as they may be, that’s a little much to pay in my opinion. So why not make your own version for a fraction of the cost? Using this great YouTube tutorial, I adapted it to easily create a simple bag that’s slightly cooler and sturdier than a zip lock bag πŸ™‚

TOTAL COST PER BAG = $ JUST A FEW DOLLARS EACH

ALL YOU NEED PER BAG:

20cm zip
Clear plastic – two 20cm x 20cm squares (plus small edge) @ 0.2mm thick plastic
Thread/sewing machine/scissors

TRAVEL BAG GUIDELINES:

According to the Australian guidelines, bags must be clear, and all sides must equal a maximum of 80cm’s, for example 20cm height x length = 80cm.

QUICK GUIDE

I made my bags 20cm height x 20cm length (as you can see, the zip opening is exactly 20cm like the cardboard), and used a piece of cardboard as a guide to mark the plastic in pen. When you cut the plastic remember to leave a small edge to allow room to sew the seams. It’s as easy as sewing the zip as shown here, and sewing the two sides together (with the zip open) inside out. Then turn the bag inside out again and voila! You have your awesome reusable bag.

You can also use the bags to easily and safely transport your fabulous accessories. The possibilities are endless! I bought a full meter of clear plastic (@ $6.99/m), and have a lot of left over, so will be making many, many more.

The great thing is I have a lot of plastic left over so I can do more. I will try different shapes and styles next time.

You should definitely give it a go! It’s quite easy to do, which is why it’s so great. If it was a little more complex like in the YouTube video I might have had a little more trouble lol

I’m fairly certain you can! The main thing they require is that the bag be clear, be a certain size and that the product sizes be less than ml each.

I cannot say that this is 100% true as I’ve yet to test it out, but I don’t see why this doesnt qualify. I’ll be arguing with them if its not LOL

Hi Cynthia! Im not sure what model it is, I am so sorry. I purchased it from Neiman Marcus, and it is the rose gold. I believe it is called the ‘baguette’ because of the shape of the gems. I hope this helps! I am planning to do a review of it soon, so this may be useful for you.
